Alocasia sarawakensis

Description: One of the largest in the genus, this species has leaf blades reaching nearly one meter in length. It is similar in appearance to the common and widespread A. macrorrhizos but differs in several features such as the spathe colouration, the much denser venation and the back of the leaves hairy in juvenile plants. A. sarawakensis is endemic to Borneo where it occurs in open swampy habitats. Cultivation recommendations: An easy species to grow as long as warm tropical conditions can be provided. Temperature should be kept above 18 C for best growth. Plants require high humidity and need to be kept continually damp.
