N. tobaica
Description: Common to the Lake Toba region of North Sumatra, N. tobaica is a rapid coloniser of disturbed sites such as road embankments. This species is similar to the closely related N. reinwardtiana but is usually smaller in dimensions, and with non-decurrent leaf bases. In the typical form the pitchers are pure green with two red ribs (reduced wings). Occasionally pitchers can be coloured pure red or (rarely) black.
Cultivation recommendations: One of the fastest growing highland Nepenthes, this species makes an excellent beginner's plant and is suitable for growing on sunny windowsills as a houseplant. It is adaptable to a variety of temperatures and may be cultivated in both warm and cool conditions. See also: How to Grow Nepenthes.
