N. burbidgeae

Description: This highland species in endemic to the Kinabalu area in Sabah, Borneo where it grows in mossy forest on ultramafic soils. The large cream-colored lower pitchers are beautifully decorated with red/purple spots and have a brilliantly striped peristome. Upper pitchers are similarly colored, but are smaller and more funnel-shaped.

Cultivation recommendations: An easily grown highland species, able to tolerate somewhat warmer conditions than for other Kinabalu species such as N. rajah and N. villosa. The plants enter the climbing stage early in life; regular pruning may be necessary to stimulate the production of lower pitchers. See also: How to Grow Nepenthes
